At one point this spring, Notre Dame was simply a program trying to stay alive in Oluwasemilore Olubobola’s recruitment.

By Tuesday, the Irish had shifted from survival mode to victory formation.

The 2027 New Jersey offensive lineman just announced his commitment to Notre Dame, giving the Irish one of the biggest offensive line additions in the country and a massive recruiting win considering where this recruitment once stood and the level of prospect involved.

“Notre Dame just felt like home for me,” Olubobola told Irish Sports Daily prior to making his announcement public.

“The combination of elite football, academics and the relationships I built with the staff made it the best place for my future.”

The St. Peter’s Prep standout chose Notre Dame over a long list of national contenders that included Miami, Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Tennessee among others.

When Olubobola visited South Bend for the first time last month, the Irish were simply trying to remain in the running. Notre Dame entered the picture later than several of the other major programs involved and spent much of the spring trying to make up ground.

That changed once Olubobola finally made it to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder came away impressed with the campus, the atmosphere and the overall structure of the program, but more importantly, the Irish successfully positioned themselves to continue building deeper relationships during the most important stage of the process.

That started with head coach Marcus Freeman.

“Coach Freeman played a huge role,” Olubobola said. “He’s genuine, keeps it real with me and really cares about his players on and off the field.”

Offensive line coach Joe Rudolph also became a major factor as the recruitment progressed.

“Coach Rudolph is a great coach who really knows how to develop offensive linemen,” Olubobola said. “I also like how detailed he is and the confidence he has in me.”

The football side of Notre Dame’s pitch consistently resonated throughout the process.

“The standard there is different,” Olubobola said. “They compete at the highest level every year and the culture is built around discipline, hard work and brotherhood.”

The decision ultimately extended well beyond football, though.

“A Notre Dame degree opens a lot of doors outside of football,” he said. “The network, academics and life opportunities were a big factor for me too.”

That balance between football and long-term opportunity was important not only to Olubobola, but also to his family.

“They’re proud of me and fully support my decision,” Olubobola said of his parents. “They just wanted me to choose the place where I felt most comfortable and set up for success.”

The structure of the recruitment itself was also somewhat unique.

Much of the early process was handled through agent-led visits and evaluations before the focus shifted more heavily toward family involvement later in the spring.

Olubobola credited agent Latish Kinsler with helping him navigate that process.

“Latish helped me a lot through this whole process by keeping me grounded, helping me navigate recruiting and always making sure I was making the best decision for my future,” he said.

Olubobola becomes the latest major addition to Notre Dame’s offensive line haul alongside Richie Flanigan‍ and James Halter‍ as the Irish continue constructing one of the nation’s top 2027 recruiting classes.

His commitment could also create additional momentum across the rest of the offensive line board as Notre Dame continues pursuing several other elite targets.

But for Olubobola, the focus shifts away from recruiting entirely now.

“It definitely feels good to finally be done with the process and have my decision made. Now I can focus fully on getting better and preparing for this season.”
