The path Carson Schoen‍ envisions for himself may not be traditional, but that doesn’t make him any less serious about where he eventually wants it to lead.

The 2028 New Jersey quarterback already holds about a dozen scholarship offers and continues drawing interest from programs across the country, but Schoen has been refreshingly candid about what he ultimately hopes his college football journey looks like.

At some point, he wants to end up at Notre Dame.

“That’s the dream,” Schoen told Irish Sports Daily. “Regardless if I’m starting off at a smaller school. Obviously I have a lot of options right now at the smaller schools to go there and play. But at the end, I want to end up at Notre Dame. You can’t beat it there.”

The Don Bosco Prep standout understands that path may require patience.

Schoen acknowledged Notre Dame may not offer him out of high school and has already started thinking about building his career elsewhere before potentially trying to transfer to South Bend later on.

“If I have bigger options at the start, that’ll be great,” he explained. “But at the end of the day, I want to go somewhere I can play right away.”

The Ramsey, N.J., native said development and live game reps matter more to him right now than chasing the biggest name possible.

“So if it’s starting somewhere like Rhode Island, a great CAA school, getting the film and then transferring up, whatever it is,” Schoen said. “At the end of the day, that’s all I can do.”

Schoen has visited South Bend multiple times throughout his life and attended Irish Invasion last summer as part of the recruiting process.

“It was a lot of fun,” he said.

The son of New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, Carson has remained familiar with the program for years.

“Coach Freeman, Marcus Freeman, he’s a great guy,” Schoen said. “He’s a great coach and he knows how to recruit.”

There are also deeper personal connections within the family.

“My dad’s from Indiana, so I’ve been up there a lot,” Schoen said. “I hear all about it.”

The overall atmosphere surrounding the program still resonates strongly with him as well.

“The Golden Dome, all that stuff,” Schoen said. “Overall, Notre Dame’s a great place.”

While Notre Dame is not heavily recruiting him at the moment, Schoen said there is still a possibility he returns to campus this summer to camp and reconnect with quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli.

For now, Schoen’s recruitment continues expanding elsewhere.

The 2028 signal-caller currently holds offers from schools like Coastal Carolina, Syracuse, Temple, UConn, UMass, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic and Rhode Island among others.

At the moment, Coastal Carolina appears to be standing out most.

“They were the first school to take a chance on me,” Schoen said. “Coach Scott Aligo is a great guy and their new coaching staff’s really good.”

He also mentioned Colorado State and Syracuse among the schools currently highest on his board.

Still, even while navigating a recruiting process that may ultimately take several twists along the way, the long-term goal of getting to Notre Dame remains the same.

“That’s where I want to end up.”
