2019 St. Louis receiver Kyren Williams is no stranger to big-time camps and performing at a high level in front of coaches. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder did just that at Irish Invasion on Saturday night as he made several impressive catches inside Notre Dame Stadium.
“I liked it a lot,” Williams said of the camp. “It felt like a game day camp. There was great competition, and the coaches were energetic. I felt the coaches wanted you to get better. It was a great camp.”
Williams noticed a significant difference at Irish Invasion compared to some of the other camps at other schools. Notre Dame’s players turned out in full force and were engaged with the campers throughout the night.
“There were a lot of players at Irish Invasion and more than the other camps I have been at,” said Williams. “Having players from the team out there, it just hyped you up when you were about to go. It made you want to stand out.
“The coaches also put the good guys against the good guys, and you just ball from there.”
The rising junior felt pretty good about his night and hopes he did enough to get the attention of the coaching staff.
“It was good, and I was proud of my performance,” stated Williams. “I felt I could have done better, but I did well enough to fit my standards. Hopefully, I can fit the coach’s standards too.”
Williams did speak with receivers coach Del Alexander on Saturday and will stay in contact with him down the road.
“I didn’t get to speak to them as much as I expected too,” Williams said. “I did speak to Coach Alexander. He told me good luck and to keep in touch. I need to make sure I give him a call and stuff like that.”
The St. Louis native camped at Ohio State before Irish Invasion and will head to another big-time school in two weeks.
“I liked Ohio State a lot,” said Williams. “There was also great competition there. The coaches were nailing you to do everything right.
“My next visit will be to Stanford on June 20th. I will be out there through the 22nd. It will be for a Junior Day and then a one-day camp.”
