2019 Sun Valley (N.C.) quarterback Sam Howell’s highlights are electric, and the four-star prospect was a name at the top of the list to watch at Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder showed the ability to hit a wide variety of throws, including a few deep balls in 1-on-1s.
Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Tom Rees got the chance to work with Howell, and the North Carolina native appreciated the message.
“I like him,” Howell told Irish Sports Daily. “I like the fact that he’s young and has been in my shoes before.”
Howell got a chance to speak with the Notre Dame staff, and it was clear they had been intrigued by his sophomore season.
“They were very impressed and thought I fit their offense well,” stated Howell.
The Sun Valley star enjoyed being around Notre Dame quarterbacks Brandon Wimbush and Ian Book, but also the other recruits working out.
“It felt good to be around some other good players,” said Howell. “I love competing, so it was a fun night.”
Howell holds offers from schools like Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Wake Forest. Notre Dame hasn’t joined the race yet but they would be in Howell’s top group if the Irish pulled the trigger.
“For sure,” Howell said when asked if Notre Dame would be a top school with an offer.
