2018 Great Oak (Calif.) linebacker Jack Lamb is fresh off a visit to South Bend and is now ready to head into the final stages of his decision. The four-star prospect discussed his recruitment at The Opening this week and could still take another visit before he makes his final call.
“As of right now, I have nothing planned, but I may take another visit to find more clarity on things at that school,” said Lamb. “I am trying to make my decision before my senior season.”
Notre Dame’s biggest competition will come from UCLA. The Bruins offer the chance to play close to home and a lot of the same things Notre Dame does on and off the field.
“It’s another great combination of athletics and a great degree,” Lamb said of UCLA. “I am trying to find the best school to impact my life after college and have the most fun. I want to have a great time and get a chance to go to the league. It’s not the most important thing, but it’s a great dream.
“Both Notre Dame and UCLA can offer me that opportunity.”
When it comes to speaking with the coaching staff, Lamb talks to UCLA more and has a strong connection with defensive coordinator Tom Bradley.
“I would definitely say UCLA,” Lamb responded when asked which staff he talks to the most. “I talk to coach White and coach Bradley a lot. Tom Bradley has a history at Penn State and both my parents went there. It’s really cool to have that connection.”
Speaking of Penn State, the Nittany Lions are also in his final group and the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has many ties to Happy Valley as both his parents are alumni.
“It’s really cool to have them go there and have a chance to make that legacy,” explained Lamb. “I don’t want it to impact my decision. I want to base my decision off myself and what I have accomplished.”
Washington is another school Lamb will have problems telling no. The Huskies want the California native to anchor their defense in hopes of returning to the College Football Playoffs.
“They are in my top group for a reason,” Lamb stated. “I love the campus, and Coach Petersen is a great guy. I thought it was cool the campus is seven minutes outside the city. You don’t have to worry about not having something to do, but as a football player, you don’t really have a lot of free time.”
When it comes to Notre Dame, Lamb doesn’t need to say much. The Irish impressed him and his family, and it’s a school he doesn’t feel like he needs to see again.
“I have seen everything I needed to when I was there,” Lamb said. “I enjoyed it, and it exceeded my expectations. They left a big impression on me.”
As for his recruiting process, Lamb has enjoyed it but admits it has taken a toll on him and he is looking forward to making his decision sooner than later.
“I am excited about the whole process,” said Lamb. “It’s stressful but really fun at the same time to have this opportunity to go to college and have it paid for. In the coming months, I want to settle down and have a decision made.”
