2018 cornerback Donte Burton‍ tried to help his Loganville squad on Friday night, but the Red Devils came up short in a 24-14 loss to Monroe Area.

The 5-foot-11, 172-pounder made plays on offense but didn’t get any chances on the defensive side of the ball as the ball didn’t come his way.

“I did well,” stated Burton. “They didn’t throw my way. They didn’t try me one time on defense. I was looking for the play that could have been made, but it didn’t come my way.

“On offense, I did some good things. I caught a touchdown and about a 60-yard pass too. I made a lot of clutch catches at the end of the game to try to help us get back in the game. I think I played pretty well.”

The Loganville star believes the defense will start to carry the Red Devils as the season progress, as they have a strong defensive line and secondary.

“Our defense is our strong suit,” Burton said. “We made progress during the game, but it’s really about turnovers on offense and that killed us on Friday.”

When it comes to his recruitment, Burton has set up one official visit to this point and it’s to Notre Dame. The Georgia native will be in South Bend for the USC game on October 21st with his family and Burton is more than excited to see Notre Dame for the second time.

“I’m ecstatic about getting up to Notre Dame for that game,” said Burton. “It should be a good one and it’s always a good one from what I’ve heard. I am glad I get to see it in person.”

Burton had spoken about visiting Missouri, Oklahoma State, Oregon and West Virginia in the summer, but he has yet to lock in any visits.

“I haven’t really set any other visits up yet,” stated Burton. “There are a couple of schools that I want to visit, but I haven’t set up those visits yet.

“Notre Dame is the only visit I have set up to this point. I talk with Coach (Todd) Lyght a lot and we just went ahead and set up the visit.”

Lyght has developed a strong relationship with the Burton during the recruiting process. The two communicate on an almost-daily basis.

“It’s really almost an everyday thing,” Burton said of his relationship with Lyght. “He is hitting me up each day. We talk a whole lot. It’s really about continuing our relationship and me getting know him more each day. I enjoy talking with him every time we talk. I can’t wait to get up there for the visit.”

Burton saw the academic and aspects of student life at Notre Dame over the summer, so his official visit will be about soaking in the game day atmosphere in South Bend.

“I want to see the game day atmosphere and see the game day experience,” Burton said. “I want to see how the fans interact with the team and everything.”

As for a decision, Burton doesn’t have a timeframe locked in just yet.

“I want to make my decision sometime during my senior year,” said Burton.
