Ajavon Looking Forward to Return to Notre Dame
2019 Episcopal (Va.) safety Litchfield Ajavon has been looking forward to starting football for quite some time. The four-prospect still has to wait a few more weeks before the September 9th opener against Boys Latin, but he’s already embracing being a leader for the Maroon.
“Camp is great,” Ajavon told Irish Sports Daily. “It feels good to just be back on the field, playing a key role, and I am in a leadership role too. I am the backup running back as well.”
The 6-foot, 185-pounder recently took a step back from the recruiting process after a busy summer of unofficial visits and camps, but he will ease his way back into recruiting with a couple of fall trips.
“There are only two schools that fit into my schedule this fall,” stated Ajavon. “The two schools told me about visiting for games early on were Notre Dame and Michigan. Those will be the two schools I have created room for a visit this fall.
“I am going to try to get to the Miami (Ohio) game in South Bend. That’s the one I have in mind right now.”
Ajavon has remained in contact with several programs throughout the summer, including Clark Lea and Notre Dame.
“Before I returned to school, I gave a bunch of coaches calls to check up and see how they were doing,” Ajavon explained. “I also told them I was about to start camp. I called Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame and a bunch of other schools.
“Other than that, I have taken things slowly. Stuff got a little bit overwhelming at one point, so I had to slow down contact with coaches so I could focus on my season.”
The Baltimore native knows his break from recruiting is coming to an end in two days, as coaches will be allowed to initiate contact with 2019 prospects on September 1st.
“I’m open to the communication, but I’ll tell coaches that it’s probably not going to be an everyday thing for me,” Ajavon said. “That’s when it takes a toll on me, and it becomes overwhelming.
“I know I am going to get multiple calls. That’s something that comes with playing football and being in the situation I am in now. Knowing September 1st was coming is a big reason I took a break from it all, so I could get my bearings straight.”
After visiting Michigan and Notre Dame this summer, Ajavon had figured he would have a top group at the end of the summer, but his plans have changed a little bit.
“It’s kind of delayed for now,” said Ajavon. “A top group will come later on in the fall once my football season is over. I can start looking forward to the recruiting stuff and coming up with my top schools.
“Recruiting and colleges aren’t on my mind right now. I am just trying to be a football player at Episcopal High School.”
