Derrick Miller Jr. had the chance to visit Notre Dame on Saturday. The 2019 St. Louis athlete had a chance to speak with some of the Irish coaches before their 52-17 win over Miami (OH).

“They were glad I was able to make it and hoped I liked it up there,” Miller explained.

He made it and he enjoyed it.

“It went great,” said the 6-foot, 170-pounder from John Burroughs, who already has five offers, including offers from Iowa and Iowa State.

“I enjoyed my time up there. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I loved the atmosphere, I loved the fans, I loved the coaching staff.”

Miller said he “got to see everything.”

“I saw the track facilities, the actual track, some of the football facilities, the protein and shake station,” he said. “It was just a lot and I enjoyed all of it.”

He was also impressed with the campus in South Bed.

“It was pretty big,” he said. “It was good because they mix the old with the new, which I like.”

One thing that really stood out was the atmosphere in and around the stadium on gameday.

“It was wild and I liked every bit of it,” he said. “Notre Dame has very loyal fans who get up at like 6, 7 o’clock in the morning even for a 5 o’clock game and they consistently have sold-out games, so it’s always wild in there.”

The Irish’s blowout victory also caught his attention.

“They played great,” Miller said. “I didn’t get a chance to stay for the whole game, but they played great.”

Even with the early offers and attention, Miller remains grounded.

“I like to stay humble with it,” he said. “I like to thank God at every stage because without Him, I couldn’t do it. I’d also like to thank my parents because without them, I wouldn’t be here.”

Miller could play either side of the ball, but said most schools are recruiting him as a defensive back.

“They like my ability to recognize plays and ability to break on the ball when it’s thrown,” he said. “They like my coverage skills and like that I don’t waste time. I come downhill and hit the target.”

Miller will visit Ohio State soon, but is looking forward to continuing to build a relationship with the guys in South Bend.

“I will definitely stay in touch with the coaching staff and I definitely hope to make it back for maybe another a game. I will definitely stay in touch though.”
