Solo Breaks Down Notre Dame Visit
There was plenty for Solomon Tuliaupupu to see during his official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend. The 2018 California linebacker saw just about all of it and left South Bend very impressed.
“It was pretty good,” the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder said. “It was a good visit.
“There was a lot to see, a lot to do. I got to watch the game, hang out with Coach (Clark) Lea, Coach (Mike) Elko, talk with Coach Brian Kelly.”
Tuliaupupu made the trip with a pair of his classmates at Mater Dei High School – wide receiver Amon-ra St. Brown and offensive lineman Chris Murray. He enjoyed the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium for the Irish’s 49-14 win over USC.
“The fans over there are crazy, in a good way, of course,” he laughed. “They have a very big support system over there for football. Everyone loves football out there, so it was a pretty good experience.”
Tuliaupupu also enjoyed the meetings he had with the Irish staff members.
“A lot of the time, I just wanted to break down film with them, so I got to see how they coached, the type of defense they run, how they want it run and how they run it,” he said. “It was pretty nice.”
He said it’s “definitely” a scheme he could play in.
“Their linebackers make a lot of plays,” he said. “Of course, it’s a fast-paced defense and I like that.”
Freshman defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa served as Tuliaupupu’s host for the weekend.
“He’s a real nice dude,” Tuliaupupu said. “He’s cool. He’s from Hawaii. I got to hang out with him for a little bit. He showed me his dorm.”
The California prospect also had the chance to hang out with some other current players, including the linebackers, who were effusive in their praise of the new Irish defensive assistants.
“They were telling me Coach Lea and Coach Elko are the real deal,” said Tuliaupupu. “They know what they’re doing and they love them.”
He has a few other visits on the docket.
“I’m going to try to hit Ohio State and Washington in the offseason and hopefully catch a game at Oklahoma, but if not, visit them in the offseason as well,” said Tuliaupupu, who is also considering USC.
He left Notre Dame saying it’s a school he will “of course” consider seriously moving forward.
“It’s a great school, a great football program.”
