BREAKING: Porter Picks Notre Dame
There seemed to be a good chance once he received the offer and it seemed probable by the time he finished his official visit in September.
Today, Geordon Porter made it official.
The 2018 California wide receiver just announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Arizona State, Utah and several others.
“It’s a great school,” Porter told Irish Sports Daily earlier in the week. “It’s a great academic school with great tradition. The people around there are amazing. The way they come to games like hours and even days before is amazing. The campus is awesome.”
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder also liked what Notre Dame offered from an academic standpoint.
“That was very important,” the Rancho Cucamonga star said. “Notre Dame is obviously hard to get into. I think the acceptance rate is like 18 percent. Getting a degree from Notre Dame, you can’t really go wrong.”
But his primary goal at this point in his career is working toward getting to the NFL. We asked if he felt that was something he could work toward in South Bend.
“Easily,” he said.
Irish wide receiver coach Del Alexander let Porter know he’ll have a plan for him to work on his craft and be showcased in the Irish’s offense.
“He was saying I could make it there by just following their plans,” Porter said of Alexander. “They see me doing the right things and just working hard.”
Porter gives the Irish 18 verbal commitments in the Class of 2018 and a trio of wide receiver prospects as he joins Florida’s Kevin Austin Jr. and Illinois’ Micah Jones. Notre Dame remains in great shape with Louisiana wideout Lawrence Keys III and are still in the race for California’s Amon-ra St. Brown and Chase Cota of Oregon.
Porter was offered a scholarship by Notre Dame back in June and immediately said he’d take an official visit to South Bend. He took that trip in September and said the Irish moved way up while his father, George Porter, referred the visit as “magical.”
Notre Dame moved to the front of the list following that visit, but he also took officials to Utah and Arizona State just to be sure.
He’s sure now and he’s excited.
