It doesn’t take LV Bunkley-Shelton‍ long to describe why he jumped at the chance to take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame for the Irish’s game against Wake Forest this weekend.

“The prestige,” the 2020 California athlete said.

“That’s a bucket list stadium. The fan base is awesome.”

The Junipero Serra standout also has some familiarity with one of the current standouts on the Irish roster.

“When Equanimeous (St. Brown) was younger, we all worked out at the same receiver training place.”

The 6-foot, 178-pound Bunkley-Shelton is firmly on the radar of top programs and already has offers from Oregon, Nebraska, Utah, Nebraska, TCU and BYU.

“It’s a true blessing, but it lets me know my hard work isn’t going unnoticed,” he said.

BYU is recruiting him as a receiver, but he said everybody else is recruiting him as an athlete, who could also play in the defensive secondary.

Bunkley-Shelton’s coach was in correspondence with the coaches at Notre Dame, who invited him to either this week’s game or the Navy game later this month. Bunkley-Shelton is excited about flying out to South Bend following his game on Friday.

“I want to see a little bit of the campus life, the lead-up to the game, the preparation, definitely the stadium, maybe walk through and see some of the trophies or something,” he said. “It was a no-brainer.”

He’s been to a couple of USC games, but this will be his first long-distance trip.

“This will be my first out-of-state visit.”
