BREAKING: Tremble Talks Notre Dame Commitment

At different points during his recruitment, different schools held the momentum with Tommy Tremble‍.

The 2018 Georgia tight end was once close to committing to Tennessee. The in-state Bulldogs always held a high spot on his list given the proximity and the fact that his father played for Georgia. Michigan made an extremely strong push following a late official visit and UCLA certainly caught his attention with its late hire of Chip Kelly.

But one school was at the top in the end and on Thursday morning, Tremble announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

“I think it’s just the perfect fit,” Tremble told Irish Sports Daily of his decision. “The atmosphere is awesome. Everything about it is good.”

The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder chose the Irish over his other finalists - Michigan, UCLA and Georgia - giving the Irish 20 verbal commitments in the Class of 2018 and a pair of tight ends, joining Florida’s George Takacs‍.

After visiting South Bend this summer, Tremble left calling the Irish his leader. He returned to South Bend on an official visit in October and said his second trip was better than his first, but it was his plan to return for a third time that said more than anything about his feelings on Notre Dame.

Tremble, who missed almost all of his senior year with an injury, feels close with the staff in South Bend, specifically offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Chip Long.

“I’ve talked to the coaches a lot,” Tremble explained. “The coaches are really great. I’ve talked to the players and they love it up there. I love my position coach, Coach Long.”

Long joined head coach Brian Kelly and assistant Autry Denson for an in-home visit with Tremble last night.

Notre Dame is excited about how Takacs and Tremble, who is more of a pass-catcher, will complement each other and Tremble is excited about how he’ll fit in the Irish scheme.

“Offensively, I see how they use their tight ends, I really like it,” he said. “They try to get them involved, not only blocking, but also in the passing game.”

In the end, the balance of athletics and academics at Notre Dame was too good for him to turn down.

“Being able to go to such a prestigious university while being able to play on the biggest stage for football,” he said.

“The mix of both of those is really good and really interesting to me.”
