Recruitment Rundown: One of the most lowkey members of Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class, Takacs handled his recruitment the same way. When the Irish offered back in March, it was clear it was a school that fit what the Florida native was looking for. The history of the tight end position in South Bend was big, so were the academics along with the fact that his mother is from Indiana and attended grad school at Notre Dame. He worked out at Irish Invasion the summer before his junior year and returned to South Bend for an unofficial visit the June before his senior year and committed days later. Takacs’ offer sheet also included Florida, Florida State, Duke, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh among others. Takacs will enroll at Notre Dame next month.

Naples head coach Pete Fominaya: “When you have a young man who is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds and who runs the way he does, you’re talking about an elite prospect. Not only is that young man skilled physically like he is, he’s also an incredibly hard worker and an incredibly detailed young man.

“With the frame he has and the size he has, he can be a threat in the box to block, but he can also be a vertical threat down the field because he’s got such great leaping ability and, in my opinion, he’s got elite-level hands. He’s really a matchup problem for any linebacker or safety who tries to cover him.”

ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama: The recent addition of Tommy Tremble to the tight end position at Notre Dame is exciting because of the athletic upside he brings to the table. He’ll have to grow into a role where he can also contribute as a blocker and we’ll see if he can become a regular option in-line for the Irish. Takacs was the first tight end to commit in this class and there is no such worry about him as someone who can play in-line. He is much more of a traditional tight end and showed as a senior that he is going to be great asset in the running game for Notre Dame. He is clearly stronger and his ability to sustain blocks is so much better than it was as a junior.
