Equanimeous St. Brown: "We have a chip on our shoulder"

A Louisiana reporter tried to stir the pot leading up to the 2018 Citrus Bowl between LSU and Notre Dame, but it was hardly the case. 

Notre Dame receiver Equanimeous St. Brown knows the battle with the LSU secondary will be a tough task and it’s one he’s looking forward to taking on on Monday. 

“They’re a big, athletic and physical team,” stated St. Brown. “They play hard. It’s up to us to win our one-on-one battles and to come together as a team.

“They’re a really talented as a defense, especially the DBs. They play a lot of man-to-man. They’re known as 'DBU', or they think they are or whatever, but it’s going to be up to us to make plays and show them what we can do.” 

A lot of schools can make the “DBU” claim as the reporter stated and St. Brown echoed those comments. 

“There are a lot of schools,” agreed St. Brown. “I think we’re going to have to win one-on-one and I think we will.” 

St. Brown leads the Irish with 468 yards receiving on the year and believes Notre Dame came to Orlando focused on getting a win against LSU. 

“We’ve bought in since the beginning of the season,” explained St. Brown. “A bowl game and nice weather, it’s easy to get comfortable and relax. We have to stay on our path, work hard and remember why you’re here.”

A win would give Notre Dame its 10th win of the year and provide much-needed momentum into the offseason and on the recruiting trail. 

“10 wins is a hard thing to achieve as a college football team,” St. Brown stated. “It’s our last game, so there is nothing else to do but win this game. That’s why we’re here.

 “It’s the last game for a lot of people. It’s the last thing we’re looking forward to at the end of the season. It’s a testament to all the hard work we’ve put in this year.

“I haven’t won a bowl game, and a lot of people haven’t won a bowl game. We didn’t go to one last year, and we know that. We have a chip on our shoulder.”
