Takacs on Miles Boykin: "It was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen"
2018 Notre Dame tight end signee George Takacs might be in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, but he made sure to catch the end of the 2018 Citrus Bowl.
“It was awesome,” Takacs stated. “It was a great game. I was watching it with some of the other commits. It was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen. It says a lot about the direction of the program. They had a 4-8 season, and a lot of people didn’t know what was going to happen.
“To get a 10-win season and we don’t lose a lot of people at all. It’s great for the program.”
The 6-foot-6, 251-pounder believe it’s was a no-brainer to chose Notre Dame and he looks forward to carrying on the ‘Tight End U’ tradition.
“The history, it’s the best in the country,” said Takacs. “Miami likes to say they are TE U, but Notre Dame has seven straight tight ends drafted. You can’t compete with it, and it’s the best in the country.”
The Naples (Fla.) native will be in South Bend in a few weeks as he will be an early enrollee and Takacs hopes it propels him into the rotations as a freshman.
“I just want to get on the field as soon as possible,” explained Takacs. “I’m going early, and that’s one of the reasons why. No one wants to sit the bench and watch.”
Learning the offense is crucial for any young player and Takacs knows the extra six months will pay off as Notre Dame’s offense asks the tight end to do more than most programs.
“A lot of schools put the tight end on the line like an offensive lineman or spread them out like a wide receiver,” Takacs stated. “Notre Dame utilizes the tight end the best and showcases everything.”
