2019 PA S Jayvon Thrift Looking Forward To ND Jr. Day

Notre Dame’s interest in Jayvon Thrift‍ has been preliminary to this point, but the Irish jumped at the opportunity to host the 2019 Pennsylvania safety for this weekend’s Junior Day.

“I’ve been getting mail from them,” the 5-foot-11, 187-pound Thrift said of the Irish.

Part of that mail was an invitation to this weekend’s event and when Thrift called to let the staff know he was interested, there was a noticeable excitement on the other end.

The Norwin, Pa., native is excited about seeing Notre Dame as well.

“I’m pretty interested because of the education there, the feeling and the whole environment, the whole brotherhood,” he said.

“I want to see the football program, the coaching staff and the campus in general.”

Thrift already has eight offers from schools like Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse and Temple among others. Additionally, he’s receiving interest from programs like Penn State, Michigan State, Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland and Rutgers.

He’s already made a few trips and has a couple more coming up.

“I’ve visited a few schools locally,” the Norwin High School standout said. “I’ve been to Syracuse, Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia.

“I’m going to go visit Syracuse coming up and Pitt.”

A three-year starter and all-conference performer, college scouts see Thrift as an impactful strong safety on the next level.

“They like my closing speed, how I play the ball and my aggressiveness when I tackle,” he said.

For his part, Thrift knows what he’ll be looking for in a college.

“Just the feel of it, just where I fit in,” he said.

Look for Thrift to start taking official visits in April with his eye on having a decision before the start of his senior season. He’s also planning to graduate and enroll early at the school of his choice.

We’re told an offer from the Irish could have a major impact on Thrift’s process.
