2019 NJ OL Christian Mahogany Hearing From Notre Dame
Notre Dame has hit New Jersey hard the last two recruiting cycles and 2019 Paramus Catholic offensive lineman Christian Mahogany has heard from the Irish staff.
“I have spoken with Director of Player Personnel (Dave) Peloquin and Coach (Chip) Long,” Mahogany told Irish Sports Daily. “They told me they were just starting spring ball and wanted me to get over for a visit. I told them I’d love to get to Notre Dame for a visit.”
The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder is familiar with the Notre Dame program and played against two Irish signees the last few years.
“I know a lot about Notre Dame,” stated Mahogany. “I know Jayson and Justin Ademilola, but I didn’t have any family or friends go to Notre Dame.
“I thought they were the best defensive linemen I went against so far. They were pesky, annoying and they were a dominant pair on the defensive line.”
Mahogany holds offers from Buffalo, Central Michigan, Howard, Morgan State and Ohio. The early offers have given the New Jersey native a peace of mind and motivation to keep pushing for more.
“It’s good,” Mahogany said. “It takes a lot off my shoulders, and it lets me breathe, but I still have to continue to work. There is no stopping. I see what I am and I have to keep working to get to the next level.”
During the offseason, Mahogany is fine-tuning his game for his senior season, and it starts with the little things.
“I’ve been leaning up a little bit and working on my footwork,” explained Mahogany. “I’m working on being able to pull a little bit better.
“The best thing I do, I have stone hands. Once you’re in my grasp, it’s over. I’ve heard that a lot from a people, so I tend to use that to my advantage in my pass sets. I’m an aggressive person on the field.”
Perhaps the most intriguing thing about Mahogany is where he projects in college. He currently has the size to play tackle or guard at the next level, but he could very well continue to get bigger over the next few years.
“I haven’t really talked to coaches about my future position because I’m supposed to get taller,” said Mahogany. “By the time I am 18, I might be around 6-foot-5 or 6-foot-6. The doctor told me the shortest I would be is around 6-foot-7.
“If I get that tall, I’ll probably be a tackle. I could see myself being a guard right now.”
Boston College, Michigan State, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Virginia are keeping in close communication with Mahogany as the camp season begins.
Mahogany will take some unofficial and official visits over the next few months as he prepares for a summer commitment.
“I am going to look at where I am because I can take early official visits,” stated Mahogany. “I plan on committing in September.
“I am looking at what schools can provide for me after football. I’m not guaranteed to make it to the league. I want to make sure I succeed in the classroom.”
