2019 Brunswick (Conn.) receiver Cornelius Johnson‍ and his father left for Notre Dame at around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to take in Junior Day.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder didn’t leave disappointed as wide receivers coach Del Alexander offered Johnson during the visit.

“Coach Alexander he let me know they were offering me in the locker room,” Johnson told Irish Sports Daily. “It was an exciting moment.

“It’s a blessing and an honor to get an offer from Notre Dame.”

Alexander made sure to spend a lot of time with Johnson, and the two got to feel each other out during the visit.

“He expressed interest in me throughout the day,” explained Johnson. “He wanted to show me how he coached the players and his style of coaching. He wanted to give me a day in the life of what Notre Dame players go through. It was great to see everything from that perspective.

“He’s very friendly. He’s just a good guy. I got along with him well.”

The three-star prospect also met with head coach Brian Kelly in the afternoon.

“I met with Coach Kelly in the locker room,” stated Johnson. “He’s very intelligent in what he wants to do, and he has a plan that he’s focused on. I think that's really good to see from a program.

“He’s straightforward. He’s down to business, but that’s what it’s about. Winning National Championships is his goal.”

Johnson saw campus but was impressed with the facilities and the new indoor facility coming in the near future.

“The facilities were great,” Johnson said. “It’s interesting because they keep their tradition, but at the same time all their facilities are modernized.

“We got to see the plans for the new indoor facility, and that’s going to be exciting to see.”

While the facilities impressed him, Johnson knows they will come in handy at the school of his choice, but Johnson is also focused on academics. The Brunswick star is in his sixth-year of Mandarin, and the educational opportunities at Notre Dame stuck out to him.

“The facilities are important because you will spend a lot of time there throughout the day,” Johnson explained. “The important part of the day was when we got to talk to the head academic advisor. He expressed what it takes to graduate from Notre Dame and how it’s not going to be easy, but it’s possible if you focus and work hard.

“It’s comforting because you always want to have opportunities to get a degree and be successful after football. Notre Dame presents that opportunity.”

Johnson will now look to set up a few more visits this spring, and a commitment isn't on his mind right now.

“I have some plans in mind, but nothing is finalized in terms of a specific date,” said Johnson. “I haven’t decided when I want to commit.”
