2020 Port Huron Northern (Mich.) defensive end Braiden McGregor‍ made his way down to South Bend for an unofficial visit on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder left Notre Dame with an offer from head coach Brian Kelly.

“I ended up having a meeting with Coach Kelly,” McGregor told Irish Sports Daily. “He said he was offering me when he was in a meeting with my parents and I.”

The offer definitely caught McGregor off guard as he was fresh off a visit from another in-state program where he didn’t get offered.

“I was surprised because I only had three offers and they were from MAC schools,” explained McGregor. “I visited Purdue, and they didn’t offer me, so I thought I was kind of a MAC player, but I guess not.”

McGregor also thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Notre Dame. The day was extremely busy, and the McGregor family ended up staying on campus for nine hours on Tuesday.

“It was a really good visit,” stated McGregor. “I started off watching practice, and then I got a tour of the locker room. I got to try on the uniform and see the field too.

“I met with an academic guy and went over a couple of things with him. I finished up with another golf cart ride around campus and had a meeting with the defensive coordinator and position coach.”

Notre Dame’s practice impressed McGregor, but it was the lack of wasted time stuck out to the Michigan native.

“It was great to watch practice,” said McGregor. “It was really high paced, and they weren’t standing around much. I liked they were moving around a lot and not wasting time.”

The academic presentation also stood out to McGregor.

“It was a great meeting, and I learned a lot,” explained McGregor. “I liked it a lot because it’s not like they are going to leave you behind like some other schools might. They have eight hours a week of tutoring, and if I’m struggling in any subject, they will help me out with it.”

Clark Lea got the chance to explain where he saw McGregor fitting in, but also laid the foundation for a lasting relationship.

“They want me to play the drop position,” stated McGregor. “He told me to keep working hard, and they’d love to have me there. He wants to start a relationship with me so I can start to get used to them.”

McGregor also plans on getting to Indiana and Pittsburgh this spring.
