Saffold Enjoys Another Trip To Notre Dame
Notre Dame hosted 2020 Norfolk Academy (Va.) running back Jacob Saffold last weekend for the Blue-Gold Game. It marked the second time the speedster made his way to South Bend, and he came away impressed with the Irish program once again.
“It was a lot of fun,” Saffold told Irish Sports Daily. “I got to meet all the coaches. It was a great experience all the way around.”
Running backs coach Autry Denson made a positive impression on Saffold as the two got to reconnect.
“Coach Denson is a great guy,” explained Saffold. “He made me really feel at home. He had a lot of energy, and it made it fun to be around him.”
The chance to see the Irish again was something Saffold wanted to do as a fan, but also as part of his recruitment.
“I got to see who I would be playing behind and who could show me the ropes,” said Saffold. “I also took in the atmosphere.
“I liked how Notre Dame uses the running backs. The style of plays they run was something I could see myself doing too.”
In addition to Notre Dame, Saffold has visited two other programs and is planning a trip to the West Coast.
“I have visited Cincinnati and Virginia Tech,” stated Saffold. “I think I’m going to visit Cal later on this year.
“They were really nice, but Notre Dame has been my visit so far.”
As he looks for his first offer, Saffold admitted Notre Dame would be very tough to beat if the Irish offered.
“If Notre Dame offered, it would mean the world to me,” said Saffold. “It’s been something I have been working on since I was born. I’m a huge fan of Notre Dame. I love the academic and athletic programs.
“I like Notre Dame a lot because they hold their athletes to a high academic standard and that’s what I’m used to coming from a private school.”
