It’s only a matter of time before 2020 Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) running back DeaMonte Trayanum‍ holds 20 or 30 offers. The 6-foot, 205-pounder holds seven offers to date, but it was Notre Dame and Ohio State that presented him with his first two offers.

“It was really shocking,” Trayanum said following The Opening regional at Massillon High School. “It came out of the blue. Coach (Mike) Elston was visiting my school and watching us lift. He gave my head coach the call later that night, so it was a great experience.”

Trayanum hasn’t been to Notre Dame, but he has heard all about it from those around him.

“A lot of my teachers and alumni from Hoban have told me how great of a school it is,” explained Trayanum. “They want me to get a great experience out there.

“Notre Dame is like my school. My school resembles Notre Dame, so if I wanted to stay in that atmosphere, it would be a great school for me to go to.”

The Akron native will get a chance to see Notre Dame for himself in September as he is already planning to be at one of college football’s biggest games of the year.

“I’m going to the first game against Michigan,” stated Trayanum. “I want to see the religion, education and the coaches.”

While Elston coaches the defensive line, Trayanum has developed a good relationship with him, and that could pay off down the road.

“Mike Elston is a great guy and someone I could be coached by,” Trayanum said. “I haven’t had contact with any other coaches.”

With the in-state Buckeyes presenting him with his first offer, Trayanum admitted it’s going to be hard to turn down Ohio State.

“I hear a lot from Ohio State,” said Trayanum. “They want me to stay home. I’m starting to hear some stuff from some schools down south too.”

However, another Midwest school is going to present some competition for Notre Dame and Ohio State. Michigan has also offered and holds a commitment from Trayanum’s teammate in 2019 offensive lineman Nolan Rumler‍.

“Of course he is,” laughed Trayanum when asked about if Rumler was recruiting him. “There is always competition between Ohio State and Michigan. Both are great places.”

In 2017, Trayanum ran 120 times for 850 yards and 14 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 150 tackles, 14 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.

Trayanum wants to play running back in college and worked out as a running back at The Opening regional on Saturday, but he knows some schools see him as a linebacker.

“A lot of schools see me as both, but I want to pursue running back,” stated Trayanum. “I do have some strictly running back offers on the table. I’m open to playing linebacker too.”

As Trayanum gets further into his recruitment, he will start looking closer at his top schools on visits.

“I’m really looking for a stable coaching staff,” said Trayanum. “I’m looking to see if I could still go there if a coach left too. I’m looking at education and the overall environment of the school.”
