Irish In Touch With 2020 WR Muhsin Muhammad III
Notre Dame hasn't made Muhsin Muhammad III any promises about an offer yet, but there have been some encouraging signs in the communications the 2020 North Carolina wide receiver has had with the Irish.
For its part, Notre Dame is hopeful the 6-foot, 180-pounder will make it out to South Bend for a camp soon.
“More than likely, maybe sometime this summer,” Muhammad said. “I’m going to talk with my Pops and see.”
The Charlotte native doesn’t know that much about Notre Dame outside of the fact that it’s in South Bend and he’s had relatives play for the Irish, including former star linebacker Kinnon Tatum.
Still, he’s excited about the preliminary contact and is excited about potentially visiting.
“As a recruit, you always like a welcoming coaching staff,” said Muhammad. “I like being told the truth about where I stand on the college’s list. I like seeing good facilities, things being organized, little stuff like that.”
The Myers Park High School standout already has offers from North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Temple, Central Florida and Michigan State.
“It obviously gives me a great sign that I’m on track,” he said of the early offers. “Some guys, as soon as they get a little success, they stop working. But for me, it’s a great drive telling me that I’m on the right path and if I keep it up, hopefully I’ll get to play on Sundays one day.
“Right now, I’m just staying in contact with all of the coaches and enjoying the recruiting process as it lasts.”
College coaches have told Muhammad they like his hands, route-running and overall athletic ability.
“I play three sports; football, basketball and track,” he explained. “They wanted me to get faster, that’s the reason why is started running track this season. I was playing baseball, but I stopped that and started running track. They’re just telling me they like my footwork and my size and length.”
He’s already made visits to schools like North Carolina, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Michigan State among others. He has a few other trips in mind for the summer.
“I plan to get down to Georgia and Alabama,” he said. “Hopefully, I can get up to Notre Dame. I think those are my main three as of right now. I’ll try to make a couple camps too.
“I really want some place where coaches are really welcoming and obviously successful. That’ll be the place I’m making a living for the next three to four years. I’m looking for a great environment with good people to surround myself with. Obviously, a place I may look forward to making a future.”
Muhammad is the son of the former Carolina Panther and Chicago Bear wideout by the same name.
“Obviously, I pick at his brain,” Muhammad said of his father. “I soak it up like a sponge. I take all of his advice because he played with the best of the best. It’s a phenomenal platform to bounce things off of.
“I have the eyes on me, so I just have to produce. There’s nothing really to worry about from that point, I just have to go out there and make plays.”
