2020 Mars (Pa.) offensive lineman Michael Carmody‍ watched his brother, Robby, go through the recruiting process for the last few years, but it’s now time for 6-foot-6, 273-pounder to focus on his recruitment.

The four-star prospect holds 15 offers from programs like Cincinnati, Duke, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Carmody will be in South Bend on Saturday for Notre Dame’s Elite Skills Camp, and he’s looking forward to challenging himself.

“I want to learn a few things, and I hope to do well at the camp,” Carmody told Irish Sports Daily.

While most prospects settle in on a position once their recruitment gets started, Carmody had a decision to make as he held offers at tight end, offensive line and defensive line.

“I think I’m settled in on offensive tackle at this point,” stated Carmody. “I have been working on it all summer and spring.

“It’s still here and there with some schools, but most schools are recruiting me at offensive tackle.”

Carmody has played tight end in high school to this point, but in a similar fashion to former Notre Dame offensive lineman Mark Harrell, the Mars star has done more blocking than receiving.

“We run the wing-T at Mars, so I have been a glorified offensive tackle,” laughed Carmody. “It’s fine, and I like blocking.”

2020 prospects can’t receive calls from coaches just yet, but Carmody can call coaches, and Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn has been one of those calls.

“He’s a good guy,” Carmody said of Quinn. “He knows what the players want. He’s just a cool guy. I could see myself building a good relationship with him.”

As Carmody’s recruitment looks like it will be a national recruitment sooner than later and he's focused on handling his process much like his brother handled his.

“Robby was humble through his whole recruitment,” explained Carmody. “That’s how I have tried to be. I’m not bragging about it. I’ve been putting my head down and working harder.”

Notre Dame hasn’t offered just yet, but if the Irish do, Carmody admitted it would present a unique opportunity.

“It’d meant a lot knowing my brother will be there,” said Carmody. “We would have the opportunity to play at the same school, and that would be pretty cool.”
