When Brendon Clark‍ announced his decommitment from Wake Forest last month, it was clear the 2019 Virginia quarterback had a plan.

He was going to make a couple more visits and then announce his final decision on The Fourth of July.

That day is here and Clark just announced his commitment to Notre Dame. He chose the Irish over North Carolina and Clemson in the end.

Along with wide receiver Cam Hart’s announcement earlier in the day, Clark’s pledge gives the Irish 17 total commitments in the Class of 2019 and fills the void at quarterback that was created when Cade McNamara decommitted back in March.

“I’m very excited,” he told Irish Sports Daily of the decision recently.

Together with his Manchester High School head coach, Clark mapped out nine areas of importance to him – items like facilities, coaching stability, football success, personal growth, academics and the weight of each school’s degree – and ranked his finalists first to third in each.

Notre Dame placed first in seven of the nine categories.

“That helped me answer the question,” Clark explained.

“I’m relieved to pick a school that I think is perfect for me in all aspects.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder took an official visit to South Bend last month, a couple weeks after being offered by the Irish, which helped provide the information he needed to answer to all of those questions.

“The campus is obviously very prestigious aesthetically,” he said. “It’s just a beautiful place.”

Quarterback coach Tom Rees and offensive coordinator Chip Long also made huge impressions.

“Coach Rees and Coach Long are very cool guys who I got to know,” he said. “I got to mesh with the players a little bit too. This is a great team.”

He’s excited to join the other members of the Irish’s 2019 recruiting class and to work toward adding to it.

“It’s nice to finally be a part of a new family and meet all of the guys who are in the recruiting process and build relationships with them and hopefully reach out to some other guys we’re trying to get as well,” he said.

Despite being the newest member of the group, Clark says he feels a responsibility as the quarterback to play a big role in recruiting.

“It’s kind of the leadership role of that position, so most definitely.”
