2020 Wisconsin LB Ben Kreul Hoping To Visit Notre Dame This Fall
Ben Kreul wasn’t able to make it down to South Bend the first time Notre Dame’s Director of Football Recruiting asked, but the 2020 Wisconsin linebacker wants to take Aaryn Kearney up on his additional offers.
“First, it was just kind of messages over Twitter about getting down to camp,” Kreul says of his communication with Kearney. “Unfortunately, with my whole camp schedule, it didn’t work out to get a date to camp down there.
“Then, we talked more and he said they’d like to get me down for a gameday visit sometime in the fall. I think we’ll probably end up talking more as the season gets close.”
The Catholic Memorial High School standout says he hopes to make it out for a game in South Bend this fall.
“If the dates work out and everything like that, I’d love to get down there,” he says.
“I’d like to see the coaches, how they interact with the players and the gameday feel, just to see how serious things are, how they prepare for games and how well every player knows what to do and what’s going on.”
Kreul has a great deal of respect for Notre Dame as a school and a football program.
“I know it’s a prestigious college to say the least,” he explains. “Obviously, education is the main thing. There’s obviously life after football. I know Notre Dame is really good educationally. Academics is a really big part of it and tradition. Notre Dame has a really good tradition and that’s something that would be awesome to be a part of.”
He has early offers from Nebraska and Iowa State.
“It’s for sure humbling to say the least,” he says of the Big 12 scholarships. “When you get that first one, you’re speechless. Everything you worked for, those early-morning workouts and stuff like that all paid off. Obviously, there’s still a lot of work to do and it’s just the beginning.”
He’s also receiving interest from schools like Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State.
At 6 feet, 3 inches and 220 pounds, Kreul says college coaches like his frame.
“I think a big thing for linebackers is size,” he adds. “I think that good prototype of a linebacker for my size, height and weight. And physicality. I hope that I’m the most physical player on the team every game and that’s kind of what I pride myself on.”
He played inside linebacker last season, but will be moving to outside this year.
“Honestly, I feel like I play both positions,” Kreul says. “I know both positions really well. Whatever the school is looking at me for, I feel like I can adjust to it and play either position.”
Being comfortable will play a big role in his ultimate decision along with academics.
“Like I said earlier, obviously education is a big part. Then, just a good relationship with the coaches. If I don’t like the coaches, I’m not going to enjoy my time there. Obviously, I want the coaches to be able to know me and push my buttons the right way and make sure I’m working my ass off. Those are going to be the two main factors, a good relationship with the coaches and education.”
