It’s still very early, but Bryce Steele’s recruiting process is well under way.

The 2021 safety prospect from Episcopal High School in Virginia already has offers from Michigan, North Carolina, Boston College, Florida International and Bowling Green.

“I’ve worked really hard to get where I’m at and I plan on continuing to work even harder because I haven’t made it yet,” Steele said. “My goal is to play high-level Division-I college football and possibly going to the next level. I’m blessed to even have the offers that I do at such a young age. I’m going to continue to work on my game and try to get better.”

Notre Dame is another school that has shown early interest in Steele, who is teammates with 2019 Irish safety commit Litchfield Ajavon.

“They can’t really talk to me right now because of my age, but they sent my high school coach an email stating that I’m allowed to bring two other people with me to any of the home games this season,” he explained.

The Raleigh, N.C., native isn’t sure what game he’ll make it to yet, but said his coaches have told him they’ll help him get to one that fits their schedule.

“I have my eyes set on the Stanford or Florida State games,” he said.

“I really want to see how the coaches are, how they coach, how they get along with the players, just the whole vibe of Notre Dame Football in general. I’ve never been to a Notre Dame game before, I’ve only watched on TV. Of course, it’s going to be different possibly being in the locker room, being on the field pregame with them and getting to see everything firsthand.”

Steele was honored just to be contacted by the Irish.

“Notre Dame is a really good program both academically and athletically,” he said. “Just the fact of them acknowledging my presence was really kind of mind-blowing, especially since Notre Dame is such a strong football program with such a strong history. Notre Dame is definitely a place I could see myself playing.”

He’s already taken trips to Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, Syracuse and Ohio State in the past.

Coaches like the combination of his frame, athleticism and attitude.

“They like my size and how I’m very versatile, aggressive and physical,” he said. “Not a lot of safeties right now are 6-1, 195 as a rising sophomore in high school. A lot of schools have said even though they see me as a safety right now in high school, I have the potential to grow and possibly be moved to outside linebacker and/or nickel.”

He’ll be looking to form a bond with coaches and players before picking a college.

“I’m also looking for a school that has the best of both worlds academically and athletically. I’m looking for a school that would help me get to the next level.”
