Enzo Jennings‍ has emerged as one of the very best 2020 prospects in the state of Michigan, but that’s not the first thing Oak Park High School head coach Greg Carter mentions when asked about him.

“He’s a better kid than he is a player and he’s an outstanding player,” Carter says of Jennings. “He’s just tremendous. He’s got a great family. I knew his sister when she attended Oak Park High School. They’re both quality kids.

“He’s got a great personality. He’s outgoing. The kids love him. He’s a school leader. You can’t get a better kid than Enzo, he’s tremendous.”

As a prospect, Jennings already has offers from top programs including Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee and Florida among others.

“He’s a big kid who can play a position that usually smaller kids play and he can play it well,” Carter says of Jennings, who is an athlete likely to stay at cornerback at the next level.

“Everybody has been talking about he should be a safety because of his size and the way he tackles. But I think it gives us an advantage to have a kid that size who can play the perimeter and challenge some of the bigger receivers.”

Jennings is a “long 6-2, about 185, 190 pounds,” according to his coach.

“He’s long and he’s strong and he can really run,” Carter adds. “He also runs a little track.”

Jennings is entering his third year at Oak Park, having started every game of his career so far.

“I know he’s got a lot of nice offers out there,” says Carter. “He’s going to wind up at a great school and the coaches are going to love him.”

Notre Dame hasn’t extended an offer just yet, but the Irish have shown serious interest and Jennings is expected to be back in South Bend this weekend after having visited last fall.

“Notre Dame is just a great program,” Carter says. “I actually have a couple guys on the staff down there who used to play for me in high school.”

Carter used to be the head coach at St. Martin Deporres High School, where he coached former Irish wide receiver and current strength and conditioning assistant coach David Grimes.

“I know what kind of education Notre Dame provides,” Carter says. “We also had Rodney Culver in our program when I was at Deporres. We’ve had a lot of good things happen with us sending kids from the Detroit area down to Notre Dame.”

Jennings is expected to be joined by his classmate, elite 2020 offensive lineman Justin Rogers‍ in South Bend this weekend.
