Kyle Hamilton‍ committed to Notre Dame back in April, about a month after visiting South Bend.

This past weekend, the 2019 safety from Atlanta returned for his official visit.

“It was awesome,” said the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder. “I definitely had a fun time. It was cool to see that gameday environment with such a big game like that.”

The Marist School star described the weekend as “non-stop.”

“I landed, met with the coaches, caught up with everybody, toured the campus a little bit,” Hamilton said. “I got to see things I hadn’t seen before. I took in the gameday environment, met with a lot of recruits, a lot of the commits I was meeting for the first time and trying to get to know them. I got to see the tailgate and all of the fan festivities that were going on. I got to see the game, which was amazing. The fans really showed out for that one and so did the team.

“We went to Coach (Brian) Kelly’s lake house and that was a fun time. I got to sit down with the coaches and talk about plans moving forward.”

The Georgia native enjoyed his time at Kelly’s lake house.

“It was pretty cool,” he said. “Coach Kelly was there talking to all of the recruits. We got to go tubing on the speed boat and play a little video games, watch some football. It was kind of a family environment.”

In addition to Kelly, Hamilton also had the chance to spend time with defensive backs coach Todd Lyght.

“They definitely want me to come in and make an impact early and I definitely want that too,” said Hamilton. “Coach Kelly and Coach Lyght see me as somebody who can impact the game early and help on the defensive side.”

Hamilton was able to hang out with several of the other visiting commits and recruits, including his good friend and Atlanta native KJ Wallace.

“Kyren Williams, KJ obviously, Hunter Spears, John Olmstead, Quinn Carroll, Osita (Ekwonu), Jacob Lacey, a bunch of guys and a couple guys who are definitely thinking about Notre Dame who haven’t committed yet,” he said.

Several uncommitted prospects were in town as well and Hamilton didn’t feel like he needed to do too much selling over the weekend.

“I don’t really think I have to say much with that gameday environment and those fans,” he explained. “They already know what the academic side is like and what Notre Dame can do for you after football. After that Saturday, if they don’t want to come to Notre Dame then maybe it’s just not the place for them, but I thought it was very pleasing to a person who has to commit.”

Hamilton, who was hosted for the weekend by freshman defensive back DJ Brown, thought he fit in well with the players on the team.

“I definitely felt like they’re guys I could get along with,” he said. “They have the same personality, same goals in mind. I don’t think we’d have any problems there. I think we’d be great friends and great teammates.”

Hamilton is enjoying his senior season right now, but also took a minute to think about his future this weekend.

“It’s a little surreal that we’re going to be on that stage in less than a year. It really puts in perspective how long I’ve come and how long I have to go. I’m setting new goals for myself and hopefully I’ll be able to achieve them.”
