2020 Michigan ATH Ian Stewart Enjoys Notre Dame Return
Ian Stewart couldn’t stay at Notre Dame all day on Saturday, but the 2020 Michigan athlete was in town long enough to get a positive impression.
“It went good,” the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder said. “It was fun.
“Once we got there, they gave me a little tour of the place and they did my height and weight and stuff and gave me a photoshoot, that was pretty sweet. After that, we just went up and ate. Then, we went to the stadium and the coaches came in.
“I watched the game and that was pretty much it.”
The Oscar A. Carlson High School standout had the chance to speak with Notre Dame assistants Todd Lyght and Jeff Quinn.
“(Lyght) said they really liked me a lot,” Stewart explained. “Right now, they’re recruiting me at both. They like me at receiver and they like me on defense too.
“I’ve talked to him a couple of times. He’s a real cool dude.”
Quinn explained that the Irish like Stewart’s athleticism and thanked him for coming.
The Rockwood, Mich., native left Notre Dame’s game against Ball State at halftime, but enjoyed the atmosphere while he was inside Notre Dame Stadium.
“It was sweet,” he said. “The tradition there is crazy.”
Stewart was in South Bend for a game last fall as well.
“We kind of did the same thing,” he said. “I had the photoshoot this time, which was pretty sweet. But I think it was pretty much the same thing as last night. It’s always cool to be up there. It’s different. It’s different, I will say that.”
Stewart looks forward to continuing to communicate with the Irish.
“Just keep trying to build a relationship and we’ll see where things go,” he said.
Over the summer, Stewart added offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue to a list that already included Boston College, Cincinnati, NC State, Kansas, Syracuse and Indiana among several others.
“It’s been sweet,” he said. “You put in a lot of work for this. When it all pays off, it’s cool.”
The Wolverines and Spartans offered him as a receiver after he worked out on offense at their camps. Purdue also offered as a wideout.
“I’d say the majority are receiver,” he said.
Stewart acknowledged he prefers receiver, but added, “honestly doesn’t really matter.”
Notre Dame is recruiting him as a potential Rover.
He’s looking at visiting Michigan this week and has a few other trips in mind as well.
“I want to get up to Pitt, Nebraska and Michigan State again,” he said.
He listed education as the primary factor in his college decision,
“Besides that, having a good relationship with the coach, being able to trust him and stuff.”
