Landyn Watson‍ clearly has the attention of some of the top programs in the Southwest and the 2021 Texas defensive end is also on the radar of schools around the country.

That’s why the 6-foot-2, 230-pounder already has plans to get to South Bend for Notre Dame’s game against Florida State in November.

“I wanted to go to Notre Dame camp this summer, but unfortunately, I unable to make it,” he said. “I’ve been watching them play and I wanted to get up there on campus. We talked to the recruiting coordinator and made it happen.”

The Hutto, Texas native is eager to see what Notre Dame is like.

“It’s a ways away from home,” he explained. “I want to see how an out-of-state college is. Up in South Bend, it gets cold and also nice. And just their campus and being a really good school for academics.

“I want to be able to see their campus and see how the players and coaches are, how they run their team and deal with adversity.”

Watson, who has been clocked at 4.6 in the 40-yard dash, already has offers from Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Houston and UTSA.

“I don’t really pay too much mind to it,” he said of the early offers. “It’s just more motivation for me to reach my higher goals and keep pushing. I don’t get big-headed about offers because at the end of the day, you’re only going to pick one school.”

Still, the coaches have let him know what they like about his game.

“I have a really high motor pretty much all games, but for big games it’s even more,” he explained. “Me being able to find the ball and rush to the ball and use my strengths to get off blocks and make tackles.”

Watson made trips to Texas for its game against USC and Texas A&M for the Aggies’ matchup against Clemson earlier this fall.

“Texas was pretty good,” he said. “It was a good game.

“The A&M visit was really good. That showed a lot about their team, being able to play with one of the big teams in college football and playing against a national championship team and being in the game with them and almost being able to beat them. It means a lot.”

TCU is another school he’s looking at closely.

“Other than that, my parents have been talking about me visiting some out-of-state programs,” he said.

Education will be key when it does come time for Watson to choose a school.

“One of the big factors is going to be my field of study. Then, I look at how many colleges are putting players in The League because that’s my ultimate goal. I want to be able to go to the right school for the coaches to help you achieve that. Another factor is the hospitality around campus and with the coaching staff.”
