Notre Dame has almost put the final touches on its 2019 recruiting class, so it’s not a shock the Irish have started to dig into the 2020 board.

2020 Oakleaf (Fla.) defensive end Chantz Williams‍ picked up an offer from Notre Dame earlier this week, and it had been one he was patiently waiting for after he visited South Bend last fall.

“I spoke with them after my basketball game, and they let me know I had an offer,” Williams told Irish Sports Daily. “I was really excited.

“I went up there last year when they played Navy, so it had been a long time coming to get an offer. I want to get as many offers as possible. It’s nice to know schools are interested in me.”

The 6-foot-4, 212-pounder has been in contact with the staff, including defensive line GA Larry Black Jr. and the message is simple.

“They want to get me back to campus as soon as possible,” stated Williams.

As for a return visit, Notre Dame will have stiff competition as the four-star prospect made several visits this fall in SEC Country.

“It’s definitely a possibility, but I don’t have a for sure answer,” Williams said of a return trip to Notre Dame. “I went to Georgia, LSU, Florida, Florida State, and Miami. None of the visits caught me by surprise. I wanted to go get a second feel for each school.”

The Florida native has made several visits to games or in the offseason, but he utilizes them for different reasons.

“When I go on visits for a game, I get to see how the coaches coach and how the players react to the coaches,” explained Williams. “A visit during the offseason, I get more of a personal interaction with the coaches.”

Williams is quickly building an impressive offer list with Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech extending offers, but it’s no surprise as he’s one of the nation’s top pass rushers.

“My speed and athleticism is a strength,” stated Williams. “I have a quick first step and burst. I can also play the run game, which surprises some people.”

As for what he’s looking for in a program, it’s very simple.

“I want a school who can accommodate my academic and athletic career,” said Williams. “I’m also looking for a family atmosphere.”
