While most of the other players at the All-American Bowl this week in San Antonio have enjoyed being pushed one-on-one against other extremely talented prospects during practice sessions, Notre Dame punter signee Jay Bramblett‍ may have to wait until Saturday for his true test.

That doesn’t mean the Alabama specialist hasn’t enjoyed taking part of the events this week.

“It’s going great,” Bramblett said from San Antonio this week. “A ton of great athletes, getting to see all of the competition is awesome too.

“It’s a really cool experience.”

While he’s “definitely” looking to improve from a mechanical standpoint this week, Bramblett is also looking forward to playing in front of a large crowd in person and on NBC Saturday.

“It’s just getting me ready and giving me a taste of what it’s going to be like when I get to ND,” he said. “It’s really cool.

“It’s really one of the biggest stages you can play on in high school, so I think it’s a great opportunity.”

The Tuscaloosa native has certainly appreciated the chance to get around some of his future teammates in safety Kyle Hamilton‍, offensive lineman Andrew Kristofic‍ and defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah‍.

“It’s really cool to come and hang out, it’s a good time getting to know all of the guys,” he said. “It’s great. They’re really cool guys, awesome to be around and hang out with.”

Bramblett is one of 10 Notre Dame signees who will report to South Bend next Saturday as early enrollees.

“I’m excited,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity and I’m excited to get started early.

“From an academic standpoint, getting an extra semester, getting faster, getting stronger and just improving my game all around.”

The Hillcrest High School product acknowledged the transition from high school to college is bittersweet, but he’s excited.

“I know it’s kind of tough, but it’s a great opportunity,” he said.

He’s already received plenty of advice from Notre Dame punter and captain Tyler Newsome.

“I talk to him every now and then just texting with him. He’s really been a role model for me. I haven’t really looked up to a lot of people in the playing game, but he’s given some advice about making yourself better every day, getting in the weight room and working hard.”
