2021 Athens Academy (Ga.) receiver Deion Colzie‍ has been somewhat of a regular at Notre Dame over the past year.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder has seen South Bend multiple times and will be back on campus on this weekend for Sunday Night Lights before heading to Georgia and Tennessee in June.

“I’m definitely excited to get back to Notre Dame,” Colzie told Irish Sports Daily. “Coach Alexander wanted me to come up so he could evaluate me a little more. I decided to come up and show him what I can do.”

Summer camps provide prospects the rare opportunity to get to work with the coaches to get a feel for their coaching style and personality, which is part of the reason Colzie is returning to Notre Dame.

“I’m trying to get to know him a little better,” explained Colzie. “I want to see what type of coach he is and what he does with his players.

“I feel like he knows what he’s doing and he can definitely put players in the league.”

Alexander and Colzie have built a relationship over time, so it won’t be the first encounter. Colzie has also seen the success Alexander has had with receivers with his build.

“Coach Alexander has shown he can shape a long and bigger receiver into becoming an NFL prospect,” stated Colzie. “That’s what I’m ultimately looking for in a coach.”

Since his last visit to Notre Dame, Colzie has earned offers from Florida and Georgia. The Georgia native is grateful for the attention, but he doesn’t plan on stopping now.

“It’s been fun, especially getting an offer from the hometown team,” said Colzie. “I’m still focused on doing what I have to do to earn more.”

A Notre Dame offer would mean a lot as the Irish are a program he’s always had his eye on.

“It would mean a lot,” Colzie stated. “I’ve always liked Notre Dame. It would definitely boost my recruitment.”

Colzie will also be joined by his friend and fellow Georgia native Jaquez Smith‍, who plans to work at receiver and defensive back on Sunday night.

If the two friends get matched up against each other, Colzie has plans for his good friend.

“Jaquez is my boy and I’ve played with him forever,” laughed Colzie. “But if he steps over to DB, I might have to embarrass him in front of the coaches.”
