2021 Lake Travis (Texas) tight end Lake McRee‍ will make his way to South Bend for Irish Invasion this weekend and he’ll be looking to earn an offer from the Fighting Irish.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pounder already holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, North Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, Tulsa and UTSA.

Notre Dame won’t be his last stop this summer as McRee will travel the country this summer.

“I went to the Texas camp a few days ago,” McRee told Irish Sports Daily. “I also went on an unofficial visit before that. I’m going to LSU, Notre Dame, TCU, USC and maybe Alabama.”

The Irish have had success on the recruiting trail in Texas as of late, but McRee has had his eye on Notre Dame for years.

“Growing up as a big college football fan, it was always fun to watch Notre Dame play,” said McRee. “I’ve watched the movie ‘Rudy’ and my mom has told me it’s a great school, so she was enthusiastic about it. She bought the plane tickets and got me into it. My whole family is really looking forward to it.”

Sunday will provide a chance for McRee to be evaluated by the Notre Dame staff, but also to work on his own game with one of the top tight end coaches in the country in offensive coordinator Chip Long.

“I want to learn from my mistakes and make myself a better overall player,” stated McRee. “I also want to be able to showcase my skills.”

The chance to work various tight end coaches at school camps is invaluable and the opportunity isn’t lost on McRee.

“It’s crazy because it’s world-class coaching you’re getting and also a personal experience you can’t get anywhere else,” McRee said. “It’s an amazing opportunity.”

McRee hopes to show off his athleticism and size this summer, but he also knows he has to continue working on his game despite the early offers.

“I feel I have natural length and that allows me to win the one-on-one jump balls,” McRee explained. “If I had to work on something, I definitely have to get my strength up and work on my routes a little bit. I want to get my routes a little crisper and that’s something I’ve been working on this summer.”

As for his recruitment, McRee is working on earning more offers this summer and is open to leaving the state.

“I don’t really have a big issue with staying home or going further away,” explained McRee. “I’m OK with either. It’s not a big deal either way.”

There is a potential X-factor in McRee’s recruitment that could be a small tipping point down the line as his quarterback at Lake Travis, Hudson Card‍, is committed to Texas. The two have joked around about playing together as it would be a unique opportunity.

“We’ve talked about it a few times but not very seriously,” McRee said. “We know it’d be cool.”
