Riley Mahlman‍ had already been to Notre Dame a few times before Saturday’s return for the Lineman’s Challenge.

The 2021 Minnesota offensive lineman was pleased with performance at the event.

“It went well,” the 6-foot-8, 280-pounder said. “I thought I played pretty good.

“The first time around, I thought my pass sets were really good during one-on-ones. I thought I did really good the first time around. The second time around, I don’t think I did as well, but still pretty good.”

It was the second straight year that Mahlman had the chance to work with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

“I love how Coach gets around and really tries to get the technique down with everyone individually,” said Mahlman. “He tries to critique them the best he can knowing he has to be everywhere at once. I like how he tries to fit in the individual time with everyone.”

“They were just telling me, ‘You’ve got to stay low and keep your feet running.’ They were talking about the steps I was taking, making my steps faster and keeping my hands in tight, mostly technique things like that.”

Mahlman has an impressive offer sheet with schools like Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Northwestern, Iowa and Minnesota among others.

The Irish didn’t say too, too much about what the next steps might be in the process.

“They just said, ‘Can’t wait to see you again,’” Mahlman explained.

The Lakeville South High School standout is finished with his camp schedule for the summer and wasn’t completely sure if or when he would make it back to South Bend.

“We’ll see how it goes. We’ll see how the recruiting process ends up, but yeah, I think I might be able to get back to Notre Dame.”
