2020 Boyle County (Ky.) athlete Landen Bartleson‍ had made several trips to Notre Dame since November and committed to the Fighting Irish on Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder knew Notre Dame was the choice for him as soon as he stepped foot on campus in November for the Florida State game.

“My heart was there from the first steps I took on campus,” Bartleson told Irish Sports Daily. “I really bonded with the whole coaching staff and the players. I really love the people up there. It’s a huge thing for me. Everybody has a certain type of respect for each other up there.”

Bartleson will join Clarence Lewis‍ in Notre Dame’s defensive back haul and the reaction to his commitment from the coaching staff left a lasting impression.

“They were excited,” laughed Bartleson. “The energy is definitely there between me and all the coaches. It was my fourth time being up there, so my face and name were familiar with a lot of people.  Coach (Brian) Kelly was pretty excited.”

In April, Bartleson was on campus for a multi-day visit and spent a ton of time around the current players. The experience allowed him to see he fit into the program and was another significant part of his decision.

“I definitely feel good about it,” Bartleson explained. “I’ll have some pretty good teammates. They are all respectful and have good heads on their shoulders. They are all determined and have goals in life. It’s always good to feed off of that.”

Over the weekend, Bartleson also got a chance to speak with his future teammates. Chris Tyree‍, Michael Carmody‍, Tosh Baker‍ and Alex Peitsch‍ were in his ear all weekend and Bartleson couldn’t be more excited to join the class.

“It was cool to bond with them,” said Bartleson. “We were down there on Thursday and had time to get around all the recruits, especially the guys who were committed. I got to sit back and get their insight on stuff. It was great to see how everyone interacted with each other. It was a great experience.

“I couldn’t pass up Notre Dame. It’s the best of the best.”
