Three Things
- It was a smart move by Notre Dame to add Penn State graduate transfer running back Devyn Ford as this situation has no negative. At worst, Ford never plays a down for the Irish and can take reps in practice to save Audric Estime or others. I wouldn't say it's the equivalent of adding a Lorenzo Styles, but Ford brings game experience to a room without it. Estime is the only returning back with meaningful carries as Gi'Bran Payne received a few carries in a snowstorm and Jadarian Price missed his freshman year. It's worth noting Payne had injury issues in high school and last fall, while Price is returning from an Achilles injury, so while Ford might not have played much his last two years at Penn State, Notre Dame has another option if Deland McCullough doesn't want to throw true freshman Jeremiyah Love to the wolves. Regardless, Notre Dame doesn't necessarily need Ford to come in and be the No. 2 back, but more competition and depth will only benefit the running back room.- College football players don't get much of a break as exams finished two weeks ago and the team will report back to campus on June 4thish. Several Notre Dame players went home for a few days and then headed back out to train across the country. Sam Hartman is in Southern California training with 3DQB SoCal along with LSU's Jayden Daniels, Boise State's Taylen Green, Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart and Michigan's JJ McCarthy. New receiver Chris Tyree is in Houston training with receiver coach Delfonte Diamond and several other receivers. Diamond is the long-time trainer of Dallas Cowboys star Ceedee Lamb, and NFL rookies Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tank Dell, who has a little Tyree in him as he's a smaller player with speed. It's not an advanced course for Tyree, but one that focuses on the position's finer points. Diamond puts a significant emphasis on various releases and footwork, which is precisely what Tyree needs as he's a few months into learning the position. Many trainers or specialists put out a ton of videos, but Diamond has one of the best I've seen. It shows his drill work with Dell and then the former Houston star absolutely shredding the competition at the Reese's Senior Bowl. Now, is Tyree going to be at that level in fall camp? It isn't very likely, but it seems as if he's in the right place to make improvements in his game. Day two of shrimp 🍤 fried rice@Tankdell4 pic.twitter.com/Y62IinDJd1— Delfonte Diamond (@DelfonteDiamond) February 2, 2023 - I took a deep dive into the 2024 class this week and watched more than a few complete games of most of the top targets left on the board.2024 Monsignor Bonner (Pa.) defensive end Mylachi Williams has a chance to be a star. He checks in at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, but he looked a little heavier at the spring game, but weight isn't going to be an issue. The kid is rare athlete and he's just so explosive. Cole Mullins is a good athlete and is explosive, but his game is built on strength and taking the will of the offensive line with effort. Loghan Thomas is similar to Willliams, but he's not as explosive. Williams sometimes is too quick shooting a gap or getting into the backfield and is out of position, which is something he'll need to clean up, but it's a good issue to have. When he adds weight, he'll be better against the run as he sometimes gives up the edge, but he's also fast enough to recover. But the effort is second to none. Williams just bounces around the field and does anything and everything he can to get to the ball, which isn't something you see from some five-star guys I watched. If Notre Dame can lock him in, it'd be a heck of a haul as Notre Dame would have three unique edge players. I was also impressed with 2024 Hoover (Ala.) linebacker Bradley Shaw. The Alabama native impressed with his sideline-to-sideline effort and ability to read plays. He can read a RB screen or perimeter screen and get to the ball. Teddy Rezac and Bodie Kahoun were takes because they can run - Shaw fits into that mold after what I saw from him this spring. Why is Loghan Thomas such a huge get for the Irish? What does it mean for DL recruiting overall? What's the latest at RB, OL, S and elsewhere? Also, why is Micah Shrewsberry such a hit with high school coaches around the country?

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Irish Sports Daily rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Irish Sports Daily Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Irish Sports Daily readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.
