The confidence boost came at just the right time as Ward is transitioning from playing zone last year to man this year and he’s a big fan of man coverage.
“It felt like all my hard work was paying off,” stated Ward. “I hope to keep it going during the season.
“I like playing man. I like the physicality of man and pressing the receivers.”
If Ward continues his upward trajectory, the offers will soon start rolling in for the Ohio native. Ward had excellent performances at several camps over the summer and it led to useful feedback from the coaches.
“I went to Duke, Miami (OH), Grand Valley State and the Best of the Midwest,” said Ward. “They had great coaches and facilities at Duke and Miami. I had been talking to the coaches, so I had a great relationship with them already. I was happy to go out and perform in front of them. They want me to come back for a game.”
Ward hasn’t set a fall visit schedule just yet, but expect him to be a frequent visitor across the Midwest over the next few months.
“Cincinnati just invited me to come down for a game, so I’m going to try to get to one,” Ward explained. “I’d like to get to Michigan and Purdue. I’ve already visited Miami and Purdue.”
When it comes to this fall, Ward is confident and focused on making sure he puts himself on the radar.
“I’m looking to play at the highest level I can this year,” said Ward. “I want it to be my breakout season, so I’m going all out to perform great. I want to get a lot of interceptions, takeaways and tackles.”
