Tyler Martin‍ has taken in multiple Notre Dame football games before, but that was a child. The 2022 Massachusetts linebacker will be back this weekend as a recruit and he’s looking forward to the experience.

“I’m really, really excited,” said Martin, who did participate in Irish Invasion this past summer. “It’s going to be good to get out for a game. I haven’t been to one since I was a little kid, so I’m really looking forward to it this weekend.”

“Reconnecting with the coaches” is near the top of the list of things the 6-foot-2, 235-pound sophomore is looking forward to most.

“Going into the high school season, I sort of put a lot of the recruiting stuff to the side,” he explained. “So definitely get in touch with the coaches again and sort of restart the relationship process and continue to grow that.”

He’s also hoping for the chance to see more of campus and “maybe get some information I didn’t get the first time around.”

This will be Martin’s first visit of the fall since his Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School squad played their games on Saturdays. The team finished 6-3.

“Decent, not great,” he said. “Not as good as we would have liked, but it was a fun year.”

Martin, who has early offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Boston College, Syracuse and Virginia among others, had the chance to showcase more of his game this fall.

“I definitely expanded my role offensively, caught more passes, scored a couple touchdowns receiving the ball,” he said, adding playing both sides of the ball helped his conditioning as well.

He was also able to expand his game on defense as well.

“I played a little more outside linebacker this year,” he said. “I was able to make some plays on the edge a little more, which I think was definitely good for my film. I felt my ninth-grade film was a lot of in-the-box-type plays. It took some getting used to, reading different things and that type of stuff.

“That’s something that is definitely going to help me in the long run and showed more versatility.”

While the trip to South Bend this weekend will be his first trip of the season, it won’t be his last.

“I’ll be at the Michigan-Ohio State game the weekend after.”
