2022 OL Carson Hinzman Ready To Return To Notre Dame When He Can

After a pair of trips to Notre Dame late last year, Carson Hinzman‍ was excited about returning to South Bend.

The 2022 Wisconsin offensive lineman was set to return the first weekend of April. Obviously that visit had to be postponed because of COVID-19 concerns, but Hinzman is looking forward to returning when he can.

“I’m just looking forward to being back down on campus,” Hinzman continues. “It was a really, really, really good visit last time I was there. I’m just looking forward to being back down there.

“The atmosphere was a lot of fun. It was awesome.”

Hinzman took in Notre Dame’s win over Navy in November and returned for another visit in December, when he received a scholarship offer from the Irish. He’s kept in touch with Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn since.

“He just said to keep working hard and not to let the pressure get to me and keep being a kid,” Hinzman explains. “He also said to just keep my academics and keep being a good high school.”

The Saint Croix Central High School standout also has offers from Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, Oregon, Arizona State and Kansas State.

He’s looking forward to continuing to get a feel for what the Irish program is like on the inside.

“The last time we were there, they had all of the offensive linemen in one room and we were talking, just hanging out with them,” he recalls. “We were able to feel how their experiences are at Notre Dame. I really liked that. It’s a brotherhood and family.”

South Bend was the only stop planned on Hinzman’s spring itinerary. He was also planning to get to Wisconsin, Iowa and Clemson.

He’s in no rush to make a decision, but believes visits will help him sort through his options.

“I just like really experiencing the colleges and getting out there as much as I can to see if it’s the best fit,” he says. “If it’s not, sometimes it’s not.

“I just want a place where me and my family really trust. I know a lot of people say, ‘You’ll know when you know.’ I’m kind of looking for that vibe, but I don’t want to rush into it too much. I just want to take my time and enjoy it and not start freaking out or narrowing down a top five. I just like to have fun with it.”
