2022 Notre Dame OL Target Carson Hinzman & Co. Help Out

Carson Hinzman‍ is a leader on the field for his Saint Croix Central High School football squad, but the 2022 Wisconsin offensive lineman has proven to be a leader off of it as well.

When hurricane-force winds caused massive amounts of destruction in Iowa last month, Hinzman’s family decided they wanted to help and he decided to bring some friends and teammates along.

“We saw it on the news,” Hinzman said. “You can’t really fathom that strong of wind coming through and just destroying everything.

“We went down to Cedar Rapids with a group of guys. They got hit hard, like hard hard. It was the equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. Their buildings were absolutely flattened.

“We got a big group together to go out there and picked up a guy’s yard, which had about 20, 30 trees down and obviously one of them went through his house. That was crazy.”

Hinzman was impressed with the work from his friends, family and teammates who made the five-hour trip.

“Hopefully they learn that important aspect of being able to take care of not just yourself or even people around you, just people who are struggling,” he said when asked what he hoped they took from the experience.

As for himself, it was just another example of a value his grandmother has always preached.

“You hear people say you feel better than the person you’re giving to, my grandmother always says that. It was just a great experience and they were really great people around there. It was really fun…It’s always great meeting great people. It’s good energy.”
