Ty Chan‍ saw enough before he really got to see much, but the opportunity the 2022 Massachusetts offensive lineman received to play at Notre Dame was all he really needed.

The Lawrence Academy standout has committed to the Irish over offers from schools like Penn State, Nebraska, Syracuse and Boston College among others.

Chan gives the Irish four commitments in the Class of 2022 and a pair of offensive linemen, joining Indiana’s Joey Tanona‍.

Lawrence Academy head coach Jason Swepson a prospect with an extremely high ceiling.

“He’s 6-5, 260,” Swepson said. “He’s as athletic as can be. He can do whatever he wants on a basketball court, he’s got that kind of agility. He’s a reverse-dunk kid, dribble up the court, make the passes. He can do all of that. He’s agile for that size. In football, his best days are in front of him with his potential.”

Swepson said whatever offensive line coach would get Chan would be getting “a piece of clay they can mold.”

That offensive line coach will now be the Irish’s Jeff Quinn.

“He doesn’t know the ins and outs of left tackle,” said Swepson. “Last season was his first year playing left tackle, he was mostly a defensive player at his public school. I think the o-line coaches see the natural ability to kick-step and redirect and that the sky is the limit for him. He has no bad habits.”
