BREAKING | 2023 TE Cooper Flanagan Commits To Notre Dame

September 2, 2021

Even before Cooper Flanagan‍ visited South Bend, the potential fit between the 2023 California tight end and Notre Dame seemed obvious.

After that June visit, that potential fit seemed even more obvious.

Last month, the Irish took the next step in their pursuit, extending a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder from De La Salle High School.

“We had a Zoom with Coach (Tommy) Rees, Coach (John) McNulty and Coach (Brian) Polian,” Flanagan said. “It was me, my mom and dad on the Zoom. It was great.

“They think I'd be really good fit football-wise. Obviously, I come from De La Salle, so it's kind of like a feeder into Notre Dame. They think I'd be a good fit with my personality and my family.”

And today, Flanagan announced his commitment to the Irish, giving Notre Dame four early 2023 commits, joining defensive linemen Brenan Vernon‍ and Keon Keeley‍ and defensive back Adon Shuler‍.

It was obvious the Notre Dame offer was meaningful.

“It's such an honor,” Flanagan said. “It's very big to me, it's a very big deal for me. I'm very excited for it.”

Flanagan chose the Irish over offers schools like Cal, Washington, Arizona, Michigan, Michigan State and Tennessee among others.

After getting a look at the campus back in June, Flanagan is hoping to return to his future home this Fall.

“I'm definitely going try to see a game and try to do something back there,” he said. “I just think it'd be really cool to see the environment and see the team on one of the biggest, most important days of their careers I suppose.”
