Shamar Heard‍ is one of the fastest prospects in the country for the Class of 2024 and this past spring, ran some of the fastest times on the track ever run by a freshman in the state of Michigan.

“I ran a 10.64, for the 200-meter, I ran a 21.06,” the 5-foot-9, 145-pound speedster says. “400 is a 48.95. And long jump, I jumped 23.9 feet.”

The Chippewa Valley standout is being recruited as an athlete – running back/receiver – on the football field and already has an offer from Syracuse.

“That came in May,” he says. “I was pretty surprised because I was in the middle of track practice when Adam it happened. Coach gave me the phone and he did it right there.”

His recruitment hasn’t picked up full steam just yet, but Notre Dame has reached out and Heard is making plans to visit South Bend for the Irish’s home opener against Toledo next month.

“It's a great program,” he says. “I mostly know them for their 24-home game winning streak, which is crazy. I haven't been a Notre Dame fan from day one, but, I like the program, like the jerseys, the shoes and all that.”

He felt honored to learn he was on Notre Dame’s radar.

“It was a blessing,” he says. “It was a blessing, that's all I can say.”

He plans on doing both sports in college and has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college.

“I'm looking for the connection with the coaches and with the people, finding the people in the area that make me feel secure. I want to go to a college where I feel safe and easy at.”
