After camping at Notre Dame this summer, Ryan Carretta‍ returned to South Bend on Saturday to see the Irish play Navy.

“It was great,” the 2023 Ohio offensive lineman said. “It was a great time. I enjoyed it. It was fun.

“We started with a new indoor facility. Then, they took us to the Player Walk and all that. They took us to the field before warmups and then to the game.”

The St. Charles Prep standout was impressed with the atmosphere for the gameday visit.

“The campus is nice,” the 6-foot-5, 300-pounder said. “A great energy too, I felt like.”

He also enjoyed watching the Irish beat the Midshipmen 34-6.

“It was good,” said Carretta. “They played well considering Navy's offense is a lot different than most teams.”

Carretta, who currently has offers from Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa State, Pitt and Kansas, also had the chance to speak with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn quickly before the game.

“He thanked me coming out again because last time I was there was over the summer for the camp,” said Carretta. “He said it was great to see me and to enjoy the game.”

Carretta may call campus home, but he has some Indiana roots.

“I love the campus,” he said. “My family is from there, so I've been around it a lot. I love the school. I love the atmosphere there.

“My family is from Fort Wayne, but my uncle (Kevin) played at Notre Dame and a lot of my other relatives went there.”

He’s also visited Michigan State, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Tennessee so far this season and has a few other trips coming up.

“I'm going to Pitt Thursday, Louisville Saturday and then Illinois over Thanksgiving Weekend,” he said.

He’s also looking forward to circling back with the Irish coaches.

“Try to talk to them a little more and see where it takes me from there.”
