LAWRENCE, Mass. – Preston Zinter‍ will announce his college decision here from Central Catholic High School today.

The 2023 athlete has plenty of options, including schools like Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, USC and Boston College among others.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder could play a number of positions at the next level, including tight end or h-back, but the Irish and others see him as a future linebacker.

Zinter was offered by Notre Dame last summer and made a pair of visits to South Bend in the weeks to follow before a gameday visit in the fall and a return for last month’s Junior Day.

Zinter had already built a strong relationship with Marcus Freeman long before Freeman was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach.

But Zinter’s older brother, Zak, is a top offensive lineman at Michigan and the family is clearly comfortable with the Wolverines’ program. He’s made multiple trips to Ann Arbor along with stops at Penn State and Wisconsin.

The Irish are hoping to pair Zinter with current linebacker pledge Drayk Bowen. Both were on campus for the recent Junior Day and the staff had the chance to show them exactly how they’d be used in Notre Dame’s scheme.

“They broke down Drayk’s and my film and showed us how we'd fit into their scheme and how we'd be able to play all their different linebackers,” he explained. “That was really good and really great to see how I'd be able to fit into their defense.”

But the main reason for his most recent trip to South Bend was to see how he fit with the players and that box was “definitely” checked.

“I loved getting to know them,” he said. “They're super chill, great guys. I loved getting to know them more and just hanging around them.”

Was that the final box to be checked for Zinter’s recruitment?

We’ll find out at noon and you can watch live here:
