2024 FSU Football & Baseball Commit Kam Davis Discusses Recruitment, Notre Dame
2024 recruiting is starting to heat up across the country and Notre Dame recruiting will likely ramp it up with St. Patrick's Day around the corner.
Dougherty (Ga.) running back Kam Davis is a name to watch for the Fighting Irish as Deland McCullough has been in contact with the Florida State commit in recent weeks.
"I've been talking to Coach McCullough," Davis told ISD. "His message has been about keeping my head straight and staying in my books because that's the main thing that will get me to college."
The relationship is new, but the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder has been impressed with McCullough.
"He's very down to earth," stated Davis. "I believe he's a great coach and I'm looking forward to building a better relationship with him."
Davis made his commitment to Florida State over a year ago in February of 2021. It might seem early, but the Davis family was impressed with head football coach Mike Norvell and Mike Martin Jr.'s baseball program.
"The fact they gave me an offer in both sports, but the communication with my family is very fluid," explained Davis. "We talk every week and it opened my eyes. They showed me it wasn't just about sports, but about school and the care for my parents as well."
Yes, Davis will also play baseball at the next level and the Seminoles offering him a spot on the team speaks volumes of his talent. Florida State is traditionally a threat to make the College World Series and playing two sports is a significant piece to Davis' recruitment.
"It's a big factor because I don't want to stay as a one-sport athlete," Davis said. "I want to keep my options open. If I don't make it in one, then I can fall back on the other. Playing two sports at the next level is a big factor in my recruitment.
"I'm looking forward to playing outfield. I want to showcase a lot of speed and tracking down the ball in the outfield."
Davis is also more than content with his commitment to Florida State, but he's also making sure to maintain relationships with other schools. The Georgia native saw how crazy the coaching carousel can be over the last few months and Davis doesn't want to blow off anyone.
"Right now, I'm just building relationships with other coaches and to see their perspective and expectations," Davis explained. "At any given moment, a coaching change can be made, so I'm not blowing them off and I'm learning about the schools too."
Davis isn't worried about distance as he feels he could play anywhere, which is why he's learning about programs all over the country.
"Alabama, Georgia and Western Kentucky are recruiting me hard," stated Davis. "I'm not really worried about the area. It's still giving me the opportunity to compete at the next level and that's a dream a lot of players have, so the area isn't a big factor for me."
