St. John Bosco (Calif.) is one of the nation’s top high school programs and Notre Dame seemed to be knocking on the door as Marcus Freeman begins his tenure in South Bend.

The Fighting Irish have made 2024 safety Peyton Woodyard‍ an early priority and 2024 linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa‍ added an offer from Notre Dame on St. Patrick’s Day.

“It was a blessing for a school like Notre Dame to offer me,” Viliamu-Asa. “I know it’s a big-time program. I was really excited.”

Notre Dame’s Brian Mason offered the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder as he’ll help coach and recruit linebackers in addition to his special teams coordinator role.

“I talked to Coach Brian Mason,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “He’s cool. I’ve talked to him a couple times. I also have a good relationship with Peyton.”

Viliamu-Asa is no stranger to being offered by top programs as he boasts an impressive offer list, but he’s not getting overwhelmed by it.

“It’s a blessing from God to have these opportunities,” explained Viliamu-Asa. “I’m just taking it all in and making the most of the opportunities. It’s one of those things where the work I’ve put in is starting to pay off.”

The four-star prospect has made the most of the offseason as he’s taken visits to schools all over the country, including a swing through the South last week.

“I just finished up a college trip in the South,” Viliamu-Asa stated. “In January hit Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU with two of my teammates. I spent five days in the South seeing Georgia, Florida, Florida State, UCF and Auburn.”

Viliamu-Asa might be just a sophomore, but he’s already developed a mature outlook on the recruiting process. The St. John Bosco star understands the importance of academics as he is coming back from an ACL injury last spring.

“I’m definitely looking at the academic piece,” Viliamu-Asa explained. “I want to get as good of an education as I can. On the football field, I’m looking for player development and which school is going to develop me the most as a player to get to the NFL.”

When it comes to position, Viliamu-Asa is a player who will likely end up as an inside backer, but he has the skill set to play on the edge as well.

“I think schools probably project me more as an inside linebacker, but I have the versatility to do both,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “It just depends on how I grow. Hopefully, I can grow another two inches and I can do both for sure.”

And while the Notre Dame offer is still new, Viliamu-Asa is hoping to join Woodyard in South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game in April.

“I think I’ll be there for the spring game,” said Viliamu-Asa. “It’s not locked in, but it’s likely.”
