2024 ATH JoJo Stone Jr. Developing Strong Relationship with Notre Dame's Chansi Stuckey
2023 Grayson (Ga.) athlete Joseph Stone Jr. received his offer from Notre Dame during his St. Patrick’s Day offer spree and receivers coach Chansi Stuckey has remained in contact ever since.
In fact, the two are known for having long phone conversations and it’s something the four-star prospect has come to appreciate.
"It's really good,” Stone said of his relationship with Stuckey. “He's from Georgia, so we have that Georgia connection. He's a really good guy. We talk on the phone for 45 minutes at a time, so we relate a lot on things."
Stuckey’s energy has stood out to the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, which is a positive for the Irish as Stone is really focused on having strong relationships with coaches.
"Relationships are definitely one thing I'm stressing. Any relationship with any coach is important because when you're at that college, the relationship will really mean something.
"Coach Stuckey is a very good dude. They have great stuff going with the new coaching staff. You can tell they are headed in the right way."
Stone admits he hasn’t gotten to know every staff as he holds 40 offers, but the energy from Marcus Freeman, Chad Bowden and Stuckey are up there with anyone in the country.
"I would say they are very high on the list,” laughed Stone. “I haven't talked or visited everywhere, but they're definitely up there."
During the offseason, Stone has focused on improving his craft and it starts with route running as he’s already electric after the catch.
"I've focused on my route running and balance,” explained Stone. “I'm good at getting the yards I need and yards after the catch. I feel I'm good at making one man miss. I always say never get tackled by a shoestring tackle, which means never get tackled by only one man."
The Grayson star will now start to lock in his summer visits and he hopes to stay busy in June.
"I'll be getting to Miami, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama and Notre Dame,” stated Stone. “I'll be visiting Penn State too. I'm planning to see a lot of schools."
Stone will be paying close attention to a number of details on his visits, including what it’s like face-to-face with the coaching staff.
"I want to see the vibe at the school and everything they have to offer when it comes to development,” said Stone. “I just want to relate and talk to the coaches to learn about them and what their intentions are for me."
