From virtually the moment Aneyas Williams‍ took the field for June’s Irish Invasion in South Bend, it was obvious the Missouri running back would be a top prospect for Notre Dame in the Class of 2024.

And a couple hours later, we learned Notre Dame would be a top option for Williams.

When he had the chance to speak with Irish Sports Daily following the event, he made it very clear his interest in Notre Dame was genuine.

Over the last six months, the Irish showed Williams that he wasn’t just a top prospect for them, but the top target at running back.

On Friday evening, Williams showed everybody that Notre Dame wasn’t just a top option for him, but the top option by announcing his commitment to the Irish.

He gives Notre Dame seven verbal commitments in the 2024 recruiting class. He joins quarterback CJ Carr, receiver Cam Williams and tight end Jack Larsen to give the Irish top targets at each offensive skill position.

Williams became one of the hottest 2024 prospects in the country during the summer. Days before landing an offer from Notre Dame at Irish Invasion, he earned an Alabama offer. He’d go on to add Michigan State, Kentucky and Florida before the end of June while also picking up Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn and Arkansas by the end of summer.

He returned to South Bend for the Clemson game in November, telling ISD afterward that it represented a sort of “mic drop moment.”

When he was back a couple weeks later for Notre Dame’s home finale against Boston College, to get his mother’s blessing according to multiple sources, it was obvious the Irish were moving in for the close.

Running backs coach Deland McCullough was crucial in the recruitment.

“He just has a different approach with the way he uses his running backs and it's obviously good,” Williams told ISD, “Nobody's getting overworked, nobody's taking too big of a load. Everybody's fresh. I think that obviously leads to their running back success.

“I love everything about him. He's straightforward. He'll talk to me about more than football. Really, he has everything I need to take to the next level. He can prepare me for everything with his NFL experience. He's a dad. He's a coach. He's been around long enough. He knows everything enough to teach me and prepare me for the next level.”
